What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, hands-one healthcare discipline that focuses on the musculoskeletal system. The Chiropractor uses a combination of treatment techniques and modalities as indicated by the specific needs of the individual patient. To determine the needs of the patient the chiropractor will take a health history and discuss the patient’s concerns. A physical assessment is also performed. With the information obtained by the completed health history and the physical assessment the chiropractor will develop and carry out a treatment / management plan that may include hands-on manual treatment, exercise, other non-invasive therapies, and nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling.
Who are Chiropractors?
A chiropractor, or Doctor of Chiropractic, has completed a four year program at an accredited chiropractic institution and has received more than 4000 hours of specialized clinical training. Their studies include anatomy, pathology, biomechanics, chiropractic principles and diagnisis and adjustment techniques.
Chiropractors are regulated in each province by a regulatory college. Regulatory colleges are responsible for protecting the public, setting standards or practice, monitoring quality of care, and handling disciplinary issues. In Ontario, chiropractors are regulated and licensed by the College of Chiropractors of Ontario.
